A Selection of Paintings from the Freer/Sackler Collection in Washington D.C.

I have not yet had the good fortune to visit this collection, but browsing through their extensive online catalogue proved to be a sumptious feast for my eyes.  I have chosen to post the handful of paintings from India, Iran, Japan and China which most captured my attention, and to let their startling beauty speak for itself!

This Safavid miniature is the most dazzling painting I have seen for a long time, with its gorgeous colouring of china blue, lapiz, and coral, and its enchantingly romantic composition.

  1. Oh yes, their beauty speak by themselves indeed, what a harmonious combination of colours and figures. I was also dazzled by the Safavid miniature. The flowers seems so live and natural, but at the same time magical; and somehow as if they would project themselvez from the image. What a delicacy!
